Dressed Up Like a Pillow // Pop Up Gallery
Can we feel soft here?
Exhibition at VrIJland of a site-specific installation showing assemblages, compositions and constellations of objects found around the construction sites of IJburg. Exhibition text:
“The street, the water, the building block. The plain, the fences, the facades. Our eyes wander over the landscape - saplings, cranes, wild plants in the shade.
Close your eyes, and hear the sounds of construction sites in the distance. In your mind, the sound of the pounding machines spinning in the wind, echoing through the landscape. The sound of the crosscut saw penetrating the cold air.
Close your eyes.
In this installation, Pepijn Determann (1994) invites us to appreciate the industrial environment as a landscape. Reorganisation and disguise are employed in the installation as a tool to see anew. Like children building a skate track out of boards and blocks. Like a dog drooling over a broken beam. Like bees landing on wild sand flowers. We learn to love what’s around.
In 'Dressed up like a pillow', the questions raised by the balance of a human made ecosystem slowly turn before us. Like a constellation, hanging from the ceiling, quietly moved by the wind. Can we feel soft here?”
