Play Furniture + Workshop // VrIJland
How does building furniture shape the identity of a place?
The goal was to make a recognisable set of furniture pieces for community center VrIJland, which ties the local community to the place. In a workshop with artist Etty Met, kids from the neighborhood painted an enormous, wild boat and fish on part of the plywood construction panels laid out on the floor. The pieces were assembled into 32 small blocks, 9 large blocks and 4 foldable tables, neatly framing the deconstructed cut-outs of the chaotic and layered painting. The furniture reflects the DIY attitude of the place. The blocks are used for everything that happens on VrIJland, inside and outside.
