Wind Wu Wei + Concert

How can wind make us do nothing?

Wind Wu Wei is an interactive installation on Strand IJburg, celebrating the element of wind through play, observation, participation and sound. It is part of the series ‘Water, Wind and Sand,’ inviting IJburg residents to connect with the elements of their beach.

According to the Taoist expression ‘wu wei,’ symbolising the things that happen by themselves, installations were built around a grid of 10 posts, moving in the wind without human interference. Participants were neighbors and beach visitors. A choreographic and musical performance by violinist Arina Kuchmina and trumpetist Oleg Prilutsky captured the peaceful moment around sunset, when everything else was quiet and the installations moved completely by themselves.

The installation was funded by the municipality of Amsterdam, on our initiative to invite culture in this new part of the city.
